Vogelaar in the news

This is not a news section. What we have to announce ourselves is in the place where it belongs: a new machine with the service it performs, a milestone on the timeline at About us.

This page holds the other kind: the times a newspaper, a trade journal or a trade association wrote about us or asked for our view. Usually it is about mail, because that is where we are at home. Our managing director chairs Stichting Postfilter and the Postal Committee of the KVGO, and sits on the Postal Committee of the DDMA.

The list is short, and that is as it should be. It only grows when something is added.

De Telegraaf: "PostNL bezorgt weekbladen doodsteek" ("PostNL deals weeklies a death blow")

30 July 2026 · De Financiële Telegraaf · by Yteke de Jong

PostNL announced that the delivery of business mail is also being scaled back: within a few years from five days to twice a week, with hand-in moving to earlier in the week. De Telegraaf asked Mark Bonenkamp for his view, as chair of the Postal Committee of the KVGO.

His objection is not the cut itself but what lies underneath it: the print has to be ready almost a week in advance, two production days earlier than now, and nobody knows any more which day it lands on the mat. For a weekly that is fatal.

"This is the death blow for the weekly."

What this affects is thousands of businesses with no alternative: publishers, associations, charities, local authorities. On the business mail market there is no second provider.

PRINTmatters: "PostNL 2026: wat verandert er voor zakelijke mailingen?" ("PostNL 2026: what is changing for business mailings?")

25 November 2025 · PRINTmatters editorial team

The graphic trade journal set out PostNL's changes for 2026: the new rates, the delivery options and what is changing about hand-in. For the question of what it means for a concrete mailing, the editors referred readers to us.

That is exactly the role we want in this discussion: not the one shouting loudest, but the one who can do the sums.

De Telegraaf: "Vuist tegen macht van PostNL" ("Standing up to PostNL's power")

7 October 2024 · De Telegraaf · by Yteke de Jong

Two years earlier, the same discussion, at an earlier stage. The minister wanted to allow a letter no longer to be delivered within 24 hours, but within 48. De Telegraaf came to IJsselstein and Mark Bonenkamp is the main voice in the piece.

His point: for part of the mail, the day it lands is the whole purpose. A sports magazine or a parish magazine that comes a day late is no longer a magazine. And where rules and supervision exist for consumer mail, they are absent for business mail, even though that is the overwhelming majority of the volume.

"PostNL is a monopolist and can do as it likes."

Two days later the KVGO handed a petition to the House of Representatives.

PRINTmatters: "Vogelaar doet meer dan verzenden" ("Vogelaar does more than mailing")

15 November 2023 · PRINTmatters editorial team

A portrait of the company, written at the moment the name no longer covered what we did. Mailing was where we came from; print, direct mail and fulfilment under one roof was what we had become.

"A lot is happening in the market and we have to make ourselves strong together to keep mail accessible."

That sentence from 2023 has become the thread running through everything that appeared in the papers afterwards.

PRINTmatters: "Vogelaar maakt zich hard voor post" ("Vogelaar stands up for mail")

12 October 2023 · PRINTmatters editorial team

On the question of why a company that lives off mail gets involved in the rules of that market. The trade journal listed the board roles Mark Bonenkamp holds: chair of Stichting Postfilter, chair of the Postal Committee of the KVGO, member of the Postal Committee of the DDMA.

The answer to that question is simple. Anyone dependent on one carrier in a market without a second provider can exert influence in only one place: at the table where the rules are made.

Duurzaamheidskring IJsselstein: on the Milieubarometer

9 May 2017

The IJsselstein sustainability circle names Vogelaar as a long-standing user of the Milieubarometer, the Dutch environmental barometer, and Mark as the person who took the other participants through what it delivers. The nice thing about that mention is that it is not about an achievement but about measuring: only when you track your consumption year on year do you know whether something works.

GroenLicht Trofee: nominated

2015 · municipality of IJsselstein

The municipality of IJsselstein created the GroenLicht Trofee (Green Light Trophy) to inspire local businesses to work more sustainably. Vogelaar Verzenders was one of three nominees in 2015, alongside Groene Hart Woningontruiming and Terberg Verenigde Bedrijven. The prize went to Terberg, for the fifth time in a row.

De Telegraaf: "Groen verzenden" ("Green mailing")

Probably 2011 · Top 100 Green Companies section · by Anita Zijlstra

De Telegraaf profiled Vogelaar Verzenders in its weekly series on green companies. The piece is about the bio film based on lactic acid from plant sugars, about climate-neutral production, and about geothermal heat and green electricity in the building.

"The bio film is fully degradable."

In 2011 around six per cent of customers chose that film, because it was half again as expensive. Seven years later we switched over for everything we wrap. What has been added since is on Sustainability.
